Carnitas Don Pedro is a vibrant Mexican restaurant nestled in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood at 1113 W 18th St. Specializing in authentic carnitas and traditional Mexican flavors, this local gem offers a boldly flavorful experience that transports you straight to the heart of Mexico. Whether you're craving richly seasoned pork, tender barbacoa, or something a little more adventurous like tacos de sesos (brain tacos), Carnitas Don Pedro serves up a menu packed with both classic and unique dishes that awaken your senses with every bite.

The aroma of slow-cooked meats mingling with freshly chopped cilantro, lime, and diced onions pulls you inside, promising a feast that is as comforting as it is unforgettable. Their signature Carnitas Tray and Carnitas y Pico de Gallo showcase perfectly braised pork bursting with juiciness and balanced by the bright freshness of pico de gallo. For weekend visitors, the Barbacoa de Res and Birria de Chivo offer deeply flavorful meat selections available by the pound, cooked until melt-in-your-mouth tender. This place is not your usual restaurant, with rules and regulations. You have to ignore the queues and the chaos to really just enjoy their menu. The food is to die for. I had breakfast on a Sunday, so I got to taste their weekend menu.We ordered brain tacos and carnitas and even though we ordered half portions of each, we ended up taking some food home.Everything we tasted was delicious.

Carnitas by the pound. Delicious! Some unique meat cuts too. Fresh tortillas. Very friendly and attentive service. Great salsa on the table and traditional chicharrones.

I was worried when I read no cards but when I went they started accepting credit cards and debit cards. Food is fantastic and makes you want more. You want to eat like a king and save then come here.

Ordered a catering spread for 50 people and the service went above and beyond. When I arrived, they had just run out of Carnitas, but after a short 20-minute wait, they came through and even added an extra portion of Carnitas. The food was amazing and the team was incredibly accommodating. A true neighborhood staple that always delivers.

I've eaten here so many times since 2010 when my brother moved to the area and it never disappoints! It was a lucky find as he was getting to know his new neighborhood and thank God he shared it with us. We've eaten in, gotten take out, but no matter which one we choose they always give great service. I've tried brain tacos from them (that surprisingly taste kind of like eggs), but our favorite is to order multiple pounds of the carnitas. It's SO good!! They give you fresh made tortillas, cilantro, onion, lime, and pico. Sometimes in the summer they have people right out front with different flavored Agua Frescas. If you're going to do carnitas be warned they do sell out, so try to get there early if you can. (Sorry my pictures aren't great this time)
